biography
WOUTER STOTER – August 26, 1973

Wouter first studied Political Science. While finishing his final paper he started to study Graphic Design at the Gerrit Rietveld Art Academy. Although at that time he was busier trying to make it as a rock star, in which he, apparently, didn't succeed.

After the Rietveld Academy he went on working as a graphic designer and artist. As a designer he did campaigns for several film festivals and also directed their festival promos. These short animated films got awarded at international animation festivals and more important were more fun than just sitting behind a mac all the time.

That inspired him to do more moving images. Music was his first love, so he started to direct music videos for befriended musicians. He got signed by COMRAD and entered the world of commercials while still directing music videos.

During his time at COMRAD he turned to live action in which he could add more emotion to his story. His music video for 'A good year for the robots', a personal story about a Robot, which combined a documentary approach with graphic stylistic shots, got international acclaim even making it to the best 50 videos of 2007.
According to Spin Magazine (US)
“It does in four minutes what most movies can't do in 90”

In 2008 Wouter was featured in Shots magazine, the Dutch issue, as 'New Director'.

In the last couple of years he directed mostly commercials and developed a more emotional and personal way of storytelling, while keeping a conceptual and artistic approach.

In 2012 he got signed to CZAR and continued to make visually strong and personal films, with and about ‘real’ people, always searching for humanity in the scripts he gets.

Wouter Stoter creates work that is idea driven, emotionally engaging and visually striking.

He works as a commercial director and is spreading his wings out to short and long format films.
